Who can take part
- Be 18 years or older
- Be scheduled for a routine screening for esophageal cancer (using a dye called Lugol's chromoendoscopy)
- Be willing to sign a consent form
- Not be allergic to the fluorescent dye used in the study (proflavine hemisulfate)
- Not have a large or advanced tumor in the esophagus that cannot be treated with endoscopy
- Not be pregnant or breastfeeding, and have no bleeding problems or serious health issues that prevent a sedated endoscopy
