Who can take part

  • You are between 18 and 88 years old.
  • You are having elective (non-emergency) spine surgery on your mid to lower back. This will involve removing pressure from nerves and fusing bones together.
  • The surgery will be done through an open incision in the middle of your back (posterior approach).
  • You are not having surgery for a broken bone, tumor, or infection in your spine.
  • Your surgery is not an emergency, and is not done through the front, side, or with small incisions.
