Optic nerve test to predict MS after first symptoms

This study looks at how early damage to the optic nerve (the nerve that connects your eye to your brain) might predict future multiple sclerosis (MS) in people who have just had their first neurological symptoms (called a clinically isolated syndrome). You will have an MRI of your eyes and a special eye scan to see if these tests can help doctors know who is more likely to develop MS.

Who can take part

  • You are between 18 and 55 years old.
  • You had your first neurological symptoms (like vision problems, numbness, or weakness) in the last 6 months.
  • You have at least two spots on a brain or spinal cord MRI that suggest multiple sclerosis, or a positive test for oligoclonal bands in your spinal fluid.
  • You do not have eye conditions like diabetes, glaucoma, or severe nearsightedness/farsightedness.
  • You have not had a multiple sclerosis relapse before this episode.
  • You are not pregnant or breastfeeding, and you can have an MRI with contrast dye.
