Who can take part

  • You are 18 or older.
  • You need coronary bypass surgery that uses a heart-lung machine.
  • You have at least one lung-related risk factor, such as obesity (BMI 30+), recent smoking, COPD, or being 75+.
  • You do not have major health problems like severe kidney failure, heart failure, or an emergency surgery.
  • You are not allergic to any of the numbing medicines used in the study.
