Who can take part

  • You are 18 years or older
  • Bleeding is in the basal ganglia area and confirmed by a CT scan
  • The amount of blood in the brain is 15 to 30 mL (not including exactly 30 mL)
  • You have symptoms like trouble speaking, arm or leg weakness (strength 3 or less), or a high stroke severity score
  • The bleeding is stable, meaning it hasn't increased much over at least 6 hours
  • Your level of consciousness is good (GCS score 9 or higher)
  • Surgery can be done within 72 hours from when the bleeding started
  • You had little to no disability before this bleeding (mRS score 0 or 1)
  • You don't have conditions that would make surgery unsafe, like a bleeding disorder or use of blood thinners within the past week
