Who can take part

  • You are 18 years or older
  • The bleeding is in the basal ganglia (deep part of the brain) and caused by high blood pressure
  • The bleed is large (at least the size of a golf ball, 30 mL)
  • You are still somewhat responsive (able to open eyes, speak, or move on command)
  • Surgery can happen within 3 days of the bleeding start
  • You were able to do everyday activities without help before this stroke (mRS score 0 or 1)
