- You are 18 years or older
- The bleeding is in the basal ganglia (deep part of the brain) and caused by high blood pressure
- The bleed is large (at least the size of a golf ball, 30 mL)
- You are still somewhat responsive (able to open eyes, speak, or move on command)
- Surgery can happen within 3 days of the bleeding start
- You were able to do everyday activities without help before this stroke (mRS score 0 or 1)
