Gum disease treatment to lower stroke plaque activity

Who can take part

  • You had a mild stroke (with little to no lasting disability) within the last 30 days caused by a clot or plaque in an artery in your neck that is not narrow enough for surgery.
  • You have severe gum disease (stage 3 or 4) that a dentist can diagnose.
  • You are 18 years or older and have at least 6 teeth.
  • You are not currently a smoker (you quit) and do not have uncontrolled diabetes or a weakened immune system.
  • You are not pregnant, breastfeeding, or allergic to the imaging dye used in the PET scan.
