Who can take part

  • You are 18 years or older and able to consent.
  • Your surgery is expected to last at least 60 minutes under general anesthesia.
  • You will be lying on your back during the surgery.
  • The surgery requires an arterial line (a small tube in your artery to measure blood pressure).
  • Both arms need to be free for the monitors during surgery.
  • You do not have an irregular heart rhythm like atrial fibrillation.
  • The blood pressure in both arms must be similar (within 5 points).
