A study of CardioMEMS and HeartMate 3 for advanced heart failure

This trial tests if a combination of a tiny lung-artery pressure sensor (CardioMEMS) and a mechanical heart pump (HeartMate 3) is safe and effective for people with advanced heart failure. If you qualify, you'll either get the heart pump plus standard medical therapy, or continue with standard therapy alone and have your pressure monitored remotely.

Who can take part

  • Your heart's pumping ability is very low, with an ejection fraction (LVEF) at or below 30%.
  • You have marked limitations even with daily activities (NYHA Class IIIb or IV).
  • You have had at least one hospital stay for heart failure in the last year.
  • You either already have a CardioMEMS implant in your lung artery or are willing to get one.
  • You are willing to receive a HeartMate 3 (HM3) heart pump if you are assigned to that group.
  • You do not have any other severe health problems that would make the procedure too risky.
