RET inhibitor before surgery for advanced thyroid cancer with RET changes

Thyroid Cancer

Part of Cancer, Hormones & metabolism clinical trials.

This trial tests a targeted drug (a RET inhibitor) taken before surgery to help shrink thyroid cancer that has a specific genetic change (RET alteration). It may make surgery easier or more successful.

Who can take part

  • You must be 14 years or older.
  • You must have a type of thyroid cancer that is locally advanced (grown beyond the thyroid) and has a RET gene change (fusion or mutation).
  • Your cancer should be hard to remove completely with surgery, based on doctor assessment or imaging.
  • You must have at least one tumor that can be measured on scans.
  • You must agree to have a tumor biopsy or tissue taken during the study.

NCT06787911Recruiting· Phase 2
Donafenib and immunotherapy before surgery for advanced thyroid cancer

This trial tests a combination of two drugs—donafenib (a targeted therapy) and an immunotherapy (anti-PD-1 antibody)—given before surgery for locally advanced differentiated thyroid cancer. The goal is to shrink the tumor to make surgery easier and more complete. If you have this type of thyroid cancer that is hard to remove completely with surgery alone, this study may be an option.

NCT06558981Recruiting· Phase 3
Radiation therapy after thyroid surgery for high-risk cancer

This trial is testing whether giving radiation therapy after thyroid surgery can help destroy any leftover cancer cells in people with high-risk differentiated thyroid cancer. It is for those who had surgery but some cancer was still left behind.

NCT06524167Recruiting
Radiation therapy after surgery for advanced thyroid cancer

This study looks at whether adding radiation therapy after surgery can help people with thyroid cancer that is at high risk of coming back. It includes different types of thyroid cancer, like differentiated and medullary types.

NCT07419932Recruiting
Pre-surgery treatment for advanced thyroid cancer

This study tests whether giving treatment before surgery (neoadjuvant therapy) helps people with locally advanced thyroid cancer. It aims to shrink the tumor so surgery can be more successful.

NCT05668962Recruiting· Phase 2
Study selpercatinib plus I-131 for RET thyroid cancer that cannot take iodine

This trial tests whether combining a targeted pill (selpercatinib) with a radioactive iodine dose (I-131) can shrink thyroid cancer that has spread and no longer responds to radioactive iodine. It is for RET fusion–positive (genetically driven) thyroid cancers where the cancer cannot reliably absorb iodine anymore.

NCT05989425Recruiting· Phase 2
Surufatinib before surgery for advanced thyroid cancer

This trial tests whether the drug Surufatinib, given before surgery, can shrink locally advanced or metastatic thyroid cancer. It's a targeted therapy that blocks blood vessels that feed tumors, and is given as a pill to see if it makes the cancer easier to remove.
