Oxfendazole for mild brain cysticercosis

Who can take part

  • You are between 18 and 75 years old.
  • Brain scans (CT or MRI) show one or two small cysts or an enhancing spot (granuloma) that is likely from the pork tapeworm.
  • You have not taken albendazole or praziquantel for brain cysticercosis in the past year.
  • Your basic blood tests (hemoglobin, white blood cells, liver and kidney function) are normal.
  • You are not pregnant, and if you could become pregnant, you agree to use reliable birth control.

Two medicines vs one for brain parasite infection

This trial tests whether a combination of two medicines (praziquantel and albendazole) works better than one medicine (albendazole alone) for treating a parasitic brain infection that causes seizures.
