  • You are at least 18 years old.
  • You have a severe brain injury (like from a stroke, trauma, or infection) and are in the ICU.
  • You are on a breathing machine (ventilator) with a tube in your airway.
  • You are able to agree (or have a family member agree for you) to take part in the study.
  • You do not have any major health issues that would interfere, such as heart failure, kidney failure, or active cancer.
