- You are between 18 and 80 years old.
- You have a severe brain injury (from stroke, infection, or other cause) not from trauma.
- You are in the neuroscience intensive care unit and will stay for at least 7 days.
- You are already getting nutrition through a feeding tube and will continue for at least 7 days.
- You have a Glasgow Coma Scale score of 12 or less (meaning you are not fully conscious).
- You do not have severe malnutrition, cancer, or end-stage organ failure.
- You are not pregnant or breastfeeding.
