Who can take part

  • You are 18 or older.
  • You have had an acute ischemic stroke (a stroke caused by a blockage).
  • A heart CT scan done after your stroke found a blood clot in a specific area of your heart (the left atrium or left atrial appendage).
  • You (or your legal representative) agree to be in the study and sign a consent form.
  • You do not have any condition that makes a heart ultrasound through the food pipe unsafe (like a severe esophageal problem or active stomach bleeding).
  • You do not have a severe allergy to CT contrast dye or severely reduced kidney function.
