Heart imaging for hidden clots in ESUS stroke with left ventricular disease

This study uses advanced heart scans (MRI or CT) to look for blood clots in the heart of people who had a stroke with an unclear cause, specifically if they also have a mild heart condition affecting the left ventricle. The goal is to find hidden clots that might be causing strokes.

Who can take part

  • You are 18 to 85 years old.
  • You recently had a stroke that doctors could not explain with standard tests (called an ESUS or cryptogenic stroke).
  • Your stroke was not a small deep stroke (lacunar).
  • You have a problem with the left side of your heart, like mildly reduced pumping strength, a wall motion problem, an aneurysm, or an enlarged heart.
  • You do not have a major known cause of stroke from your heart, such as atrial fibrillation, a mechanical valve, or a recent heart attack.
  • You are not pregnant, and you can safely have an MRI or CT scan with contrast dye.
