Heart medication for women with chest pain and small vessel disease

This trial tests a diabetes medication called SGLT2 inhibitors to see if it can improve blood flow to the heart and reduce chest pain in women who have small vessel heart disease (microvascular dysfunction) but not blocked large arteries. Participants will take the medication and be monitored for symptom relief and heart function improvements.

Who can take part

  • Be a woman aged 18 or older
  • Have had chest pain or other symptoms suggesting reduced blood flow to the heart, leading to a heart catheterization or CT scan within the past 2 years
  • Have no major blockages in the large heart arteries (less than 50% narrowing)
  • Have confirmed small vessel heart disease, called coronary microvascular dysfunction (CMD), measured by a special heart MRI test
  • Never have taken an SGLT2 inhibitor medication before
