Who can take part
- You are 18 years or older
- You are in the ICU with a moderate or severe traumatic brain injury (based on your initial Glasgow Coma Score)
- You are on a breathing machine (ventilator) when you are checked for the study
- Your doctors expect you to be in the ICU for at least 48 hours
- You can communicate in English or French (for follow-up memory tests)
- You do not have a known allergy to dexmedetomidine or clonidine, and your doctor says it's safe for you to take dexmedetomidine
