Who can take part
- You are 18 years or older
- You need scheduled (planned, not emergency) heart surgery with a heart-lung machine, such as valve repair/replacement or bypass surgery
- You have a higher risk of kidney problems after surgery based on your kidney function and other health factors
- You do not have severe heart failure or need life-support devices like ECMO or ventilators before surgery
- You do not have end-stage kidney disease or are not on dialysis
- You do not have an active infection or blood clotting disorder like hemophilia
