Who can take part
- You are between 18 and 80 years old.
- You have been newly diagnosed with primary plasma cell leukemia (pPCL) based on specific blood and bone marrow tests.
- You have not received any previous treatment for pPCL, except for a short course of steroids (up to 4 days of dexamethasone).
- Your blood counts, liver, and kidney function are within acceptable levels (e.g., hemoglobin at least 7.0 g/dL, platelet count at least 50 or 75 x 10^9/L depending on bone marrow involvement, creatinine clearance at least 20 mL/min).
- You are able to get around and care for yourself (ECOG performance status 0 to 3), and you plan to have high-dose therapy with or without a stem cell transplant as part of your treatment.
- If you are a woman who can become pregnant, you agree to use two effective birth control methods during treatment and for 3 months after. If you are a man who can father a child, you agree to use condoms during the study and for 3 months after.
