Brain stimulation to improve hand movement in chronic stroke

This study tests whether a brain stimulation technique called high-definition transcranial direct current stimulation (HD-tDCS) can help improve hand and arm movement in people who had a stroke more than a year ago. Who can take part

  • You had a stroke for the first time, and it has been more than 12 months since your stroke.
  • You have mild to moderate difficulty moving your arm and hand, based on a standard motor function test (FMA-UE score between 15 and 53).
  • You are able to voluntarily make a grasping motion with your hand.
  • You have enough thinking and memory skills to understand and follow instructions.
  • You do not have epilepsy or any condition that makes brain stimulation or MRI unsafe.
