This trial tests if high doses of chemotherapy (thiotepa and carmustine) followed by a stem cell transplant from your own cells can prevent lymphoma from coming back in the brain or spinal cord. Who can take part
- You must have a type of lymphoma called diffuse large B-cell lymphoma, high-grade B-cell lymphoma, or lymphoma that started as a low-grade type but turned aggressive.
- You cannot have Richter's transformation (when CLL turns into lymphoma).
- Your lymphoma must be considered high risk for spreading to the brain or spinal cord, based on a score of 4 or more on the CNS-IPI, or if certain organs are involved (e.g., kidney, testicle, breast, ovary, uterus, skin, bone marrow, heart muscle, or near the brain).
- You must plan to get a full course of strong chemotherapy (called anthracycline-based) and can't have had more than 2 cycles before joining.
- You must be between 18 and 75 years old and able to understand and sign a consent form.
- After 2 to 4 cycles of chemotherapy, a PET/CT scan must show your cancer is not growing, and your doctor must say you're a good candidate for a stem cell transplant using your own cells.
