Who can take part

  • You have had a stroke caused by a blood clot (ischemic stroke) but you cannot get standard clot-busting drugs or a procedure to remove the clot, or those treatments did not help enough.
  • Your stroke symptoms are at least moderately severe (score of 3 or more on the NIH stroke scale).
  • A brain scan (CTA or MRA) shows no large or medium-sized blocked artery — any blockage is either very small or in tiny branches.
  • You do not have a known heart condition like atrial fibrillation or a recent heart attack that could send clots to the brain.
  • You are not planning to take two blood thinners (like aspirin plus another) within the first week after stroke.
