This trial compares two medicines, adenosine and verapamil, to see which works better for stopping a sudden fast heart rhythm called SVT. If you have an episode of SVT that is stable enough to not need emergency shock treatment, you may be able to join.

Who can take part

  • You have a type of fast heartbeat called SVT that is stable (you are awake, blood pressure above 90, not needing emergency shock)
  • You are alert and can agree to take part
  • You can lie flat on your back without trouble breathing or pain in your legs when they are lifted
  • You are not pregnant
  • You have not had a heart attack in the last 7 days or current chest pain/ECG changes
  • You do not have atrial fibrillation, atrial flutter, or severe aortic valve narrowing
