Who can take part

  • You have an irregular heart rhythm called persistent atrial fibrillation (episodes lasting a week or more) and are getting your first catheter ablation procedure to fix it.
  • You've tried at least one heart-rhythm medication (like flecainide or amiodarone) and it didn't work or caused side effects.
  • You are willing to take amiodarone either through an IV or as a pill after the procedure.
  • You do not have any medical conditions that make amiodarone unsafe, such as thyroid disease, severe liver or kidney problems, low blood pressure, a very slow heartbeat, or certain heart block problems.
  • You are not pregnant or breastfeeding, and you are at least 18 years old.
