  • You must have been diagnosed with ARDS (a type of severe lung injury).
  • You must be on a breathing machine (mechanical ventilation).
  • You must be 18 years or older.
  • You must not be pregnant.
  • You must not have certain chronic skin, lung, or inflammatory diseases.
  • You must not have any of the listed cancers (like certain lung, breast, or liver cancers).
  • You must not have a history of smoking (active or secondhand).
  • You must be willing to have a bronchoscopy and BAL (a procedure to collect fluid from your lungs).
