Who can take part

  • You must be 60 years or older.
  • You must have diabetes.
  • Your planned surgery should take 2 hours or more and be non-emergency.
  • Your body mass index (BMI) must be under 35.
  • You must not have severe liver or kidney problems, a known brain or memory condition, or long-term use of sedatives or alcohol abuse.
