Who can take part

  • You are 65 to 89 years old.
  • You are scheduled for a non-heart or non-brain surgery that will take at least 2 hours under general anesthesia.
  • You do not have a history of schizophrenia, epilepsy, Parkinson's disease, or other brain conditions.
  • You are able to communicate (not in a coma, no dementia, no language barrier, and able to hear/see well enough to talk).
  • You do not have severe heart, lung, liver, or kidney disease, and your overall health is not extremely poor (ASA class below IV).
  • You do not have a history of alcohol or drug addiction.
