Dexamethasone and numbing medicine for children's spine surgery

This study tests whether giving a common anti-inflammatory medicine (dexamethasone) in a different way or using a different strength of numbing medicine can reduce pain and swelling during and after spine surgery in children. It's for kids aged 11–17 who are having surgery for a curved spine that started without a known cause.

Who can take part

  • Your child must be between 11 and 17 years old.
  • They are scheduled for surgery to fix a curved spine (idiopathic scoliosis).
  • No infection in the area where the numbing medicine will be injected.
  • No bleeding or clotting problems.
  • No weakened immune system.
  • Their overall health rating should be ASA I, II, or III (not very severe illness).
  • They cannot have been taking steroid medicines regularly.
