Adaptive brain stimulation for walking problems in Parkinson's

Parkinson Disease

Part of Brain & nervous system clinical trials.

This study tests a new type of deep brain stimulation (DBS) that automatically adjusts to your walking or balance issues. It uses your brain's own signals to improve movement.

Who can take part

  • You have Parkinson's disease and trouble with walking or balance.
  • You already have a Medtronic Percept DBS system (a specific type of brain stimulator).
  • Your brain signals show changes related to walking or balance problems.
  • You are 18 years or older.

Personalized brain stimulation to improve walking in Parkinson's

This study tests a personalized brain stimulation system to help improve walking and balance in people with Parkinson's. If you have trouble with gait and posture despite treatment, this trial may explore whether a tailored stimulation loop can offer additional benefit.

NCT04681534Recruiting
Testing safer adaptive deep brain stimulation for Parkinson’s

This trial studies an “adaptive” form of deep brain stimulation (DBS) that adjusts based on brain signals, and is mainly done when the DBS battery (IPG) needs replacement or when people are getting DBS for the first time. It aims to improve safety and effectiveness for Parkinson’s symptoms by using recorded brain activity during treatment.

NCT06868160Recruiting
Brain stimulation to improve walking in Parkinson's disease

This study tests whether different types of gentle electrical stimulation on the scalp can help improve walking and balance problems in people with Parkinson's disease. The goal is to find a better way to support rehabilitation.

NCT05402163Recruiting
Testing adaptive DBS for gait, balance, and speech

This trial looks at a new type of Parkinson’s brain stimulation (adaptive DBS) to help with disabling walking, balance, and/or speech problems. It also requires replacing your DBS battery because the researchers need to test the new system’s signals.

NCT05893186Recruiting· Early Phase 1
Testing DBS settings for walking and balance in Parkinson’s

This early-phase study looks at whether adjusting deep brain stimulation (DBS) can improve posture, walking, and balance in people with Parkinson’s disease. If you already have DBS in place, the trial uses computer-based planning to try different DBS directions and settings to see what helps you most.

NCT06819020Enrolling by invitation
Adaptive deep brain stimulation for freezing of gait in Parkinson's

This trial tests an adaptive deep brain stimulation (DBS) system designed to improve freezing of gait in Parkinson’s disease. It is for people who still have trouble walking despite medications and are already planning to have DBS surgery.
