Who can take part

  • You are 18 years or older.
  • You have a carotid artery with a blockage of more than 50% and your doctor has recommended surgery.
  • You are willing to have an ultrasound and an MRI scan of your neck.
  • You can receive the contrast agent Sonovue (used to improve ultrasound images).
  • You are not pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • You do not have any unstable heart or blood vessel problems, like recent stroke, heart attack, or irregular heartbeat.
