Imaging study of narrowed neck arteries after stroke

Who can take part

  • You have carotid artery narrowing of at least 50% (shown on a scan)
  • If you are a “case”: you had a stroke on the same side within the last month, and doctors believe the artery narrowing is the cause
  • If you are a “control”: you have no signs or scan hints of a recent stroke
  • You can sign consent and complete all required scans and visits
  • You can safely have ultrasound contrast (Sonovue) and MRI with contrast (gadolinium), if needed
  • You do not have severe disability (modified Rankin scale 3 or less) and you are not pregnant or breastfeeding
