Who can take part
- You are 40 years old or older.
- You have a carotid plaque (a buildup in the neck artery) that is at least 1.5 mm thick on an ultrasound.
- You are willing to have several types of ultrasound exams (including one with contrast dye).
- You do not have severe heart or lung problems, an allergy to the contrast dye, or are not pregnant or breastfeeding.
- You have not had a stent or surgery to remove a plaque from the same side of your neck before.

This study is for people who have severe narrowing (stenosis) in one of the main neck arteries that supply blood to the brain. It tests how well ultrasound can diagnose this narrowing by comparing it with more detailed scans done before a stent procedure.
