Who can take part
- You are scheduled for surgery to remove rectal cancer through the abdomen.
- The surgery will reconnect the bowel or remove the rectum and anus.
- You are 18 years old or older.
- You have had a CT scan with very thin slices (1.25 or 2.5 mm) and a pelvic MRI (1.5 mm thick slices or done on a 3 Tesla machine).
- You have not had previous rectal surgery.
- This is your first rectal cancer (not a return of a past cancer) and the cancer is not spreading to other organs or the lining of the belly.
