  • You are over 18 years old
  • You have a brain injury from trauma, stroke, or cardiac arrest and are in the ICU
  • Your consciousness level is low (GCS score less than 12)
  • You need a breathing machine for at least 48 hours
  • You have not already been on the breathing machine for more than 96 hours
