Who can take part

  • You are in the liver ICU with severe confusion (hepatic encephalopathy) and need a breathing tube for at least 48 hours.
  • You do not have pneumonia when the study starts.
  • You are 18 years or older.
  • You do not have chronic kidney disease needing regular dialysis.
  • You are not pregnant or breastfeeding.
