Who can take part
- You are 18 years old or older.
- You have been on a breathing machine (ventilator) for at least 2 days.
- You have at least one risk factor for a hard-to-treat bacterial infection, such as recent antibiotics, long hospital stay, septic shock, ARDS, kidney dialysis, or previous infection with resistant bacteria.
- You do not already have a lung infection from the ventilator and are not expected to have the breathing tube removed in the next 24 hours.
- You are not allergic to colistin, have not used it recently, and do not have severe kidney problems (unless on dialysis).
- You are not pregnant, breastfeeding, or expected to live less than 48 hours.
