Checking scoliosis with a phone instead of x-rays

Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis

This study tests if using a smartphone app (Momentum SpineTM) can track scoliosis just as well as x-rays, so you might avoid some radiation. If you are 8-18 with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis and had an x-ray at CHLA, you could join.

Who can take part

  • You are between 8 and 18 years old
  • You have been diagnosed with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis by an x-ray
  • You have not had any spinal or chest surgery
  • You had an x-ray at Children's Hospital Los Angeles within the past week for this study
  • You have a personal smartphone that works with the study app (English or Spanish only)
  • You are not pregnant and do not have another major deformity (like a leg length difference over 2 cm)
