Who can take part

  • You are 18 to 70 years old.
  • Your body mass index (BMI) is between 18.5 and 50, depending on your group.
  • Your blood sugar and A1C levels fall into one of these categories: normal, mildly high, or diabetic (if you have type 2 diabetes, your A1C must be between 6.5% and 9.5%).
  • You are not taking more than 0.5 units of insulin per kilogram of body weight each day, and your diabetes medication has not changed in the last 3 months.
  • Your weight has been stable (no more than 2% change) in the last 2 months.
  • You do not use tobacco regularly, drink heavily (more than 2–3 drinks per day), or take certain medications like steroids or blood thinners (unless they can be stopped temporarily).
