Who can take part
- Your child must be between 3 and 18 years old.
- Child must have acute liver failure as defined by standard medical criteria (a specific INR level and worsening signs).
- Child's INR (a blood clotting measure) must be 2.5 or higher and still rising, or there must be worsening confusion (hepatic encephalopathy) after 6–12 hours of standard therapy.
- Child must not have disseminated intravascular coagulation (a severe bleeding/clotting disorder).
- Child must not be in septic shock or have severe heart/lung disease.
- Child must not have signs of irreversible brain injury.
