Who can take part

  • You must be in the intensive care unit with a specific lung condition called ARDS, where your blood oxygen is low despite help from a breathing machine.
  • You need to be on a breathing machine (ventilator) set to a mode that helps control your breaths.
  • You must not have a heart-lung machine (ECMO), unstable blood pressure, or a collapsed lung (pneumothorax).
  • You cannot have had a kidney or liver transplant, or have severe liver disease (Child-Pugh C cirrhosis).
  • Women who are pregnant, breastfeeding, or just after childbirth cannot join.
