Who can take part

  • You are 18 to 75 years old.
  • Your body mass index (BMI) is over 30, or over 27 with at least one condition like type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, or abnormal cholesterol.
  • You have moderate to severe liver scarring (fibrosis), confirmed by a special ultrasound scan.
  • You can understand and communicate in Dutch (spoken and written).
  • You are not pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning to become pregnant.
  • You have no other serious liver diseases (like hepatitis B or C, autoimmune hepatitis, or alcoholic liver disease).
  • You have not had a liver transplant or been placed on a transplant list.
  • You do not have cirrhosis or related complications like fluid in the belly or bleeding in the throat.
  • You do not have an active HIV infection or cancer.
  • Your kidney function is not severely reduced (eGFR is 30 or higher).
  • You have not had weight loss surgery that still affects your weight.
  • You do not use certain medications like MAO inhibitors, opioids, or methadone.
  • You do not drink more than 2-3 alcoholic drinks per day.
  • If you use GLP-1 agonist medications (like Ozempic), you have been on a steady dose for at least 3 months.
