Who can take part

  • You must be 18 years or older.
  • You must have sepsis or septic shock.
  • You cannot be pregnant.
  • You cannot have moderate or severe aortic valve narrowing or more than mild mitral valve leakage.
  • You cannot have a heart rhythm problem like atrial fibrillation.
  • You cannot be on dialysis.
  • You must be on a continuous mode of a breathing machine (if you are on a ventilator).
