Who can take part

  • You are at least 18 years old and weigh more than 99 pounds (45 kg).
  • You have a type of thickened heart muscle that blocks blood flow (obstructive hypertrophic cardiomyopathy) with a specific heart pressure reading of 50 mm Hg or higher at rest or with a valsalva maneuver.
  • Your heart's pumping function (ejection fraction) is 55% or higher.
  • You have symptoms like shortness of breath or chest pain that limit your activity (NYHA class II or III) and your oxygen level at rest is at least 90%.
  • You have not taken certain heart medications (like disopyramide, cibenzoline, or ranolazine) in the last 14 days, and you are not on a combination of beta-blockers with verapamil or diltiazem.
