Study of a heart muscle drug for hypertrophic cardiomyopathy

Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM)

Part of Heart & circulation clinical trials.

This trial tests whether a drug called mavacamten can help people with a specific type of thickened heart muscle (obstructive hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, or oHCM) by improving how the heart uses energy. It aims to understand if this treatment can improve symptoms and function.

Who can take part

  • You must be 18 years old or older.
  • You must have a confirmed diagnosis of obstructive hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (oHCM) that is not caused by other conditions like high blood pressure or heart valve disease.
  • You must qualify for the study drug mavacamten, meaning a heart gradient of at least 50 mmHg (at rest or when provoked), symptoms like shortness of breath or chest pain (NYHA class II or III), and a heart pumping strength of at least 55%.
  • You cannot have a condition that mimics HCM, such as cardiac amyloidosis or Fabry's disease.
  • You must not have had a procedure to reduce the heart thickness (like myectomy or alcohol ablation) in the last 6 months.
  • You must be able to safely have a cardiac MRI without metal implants or severe claustrophobia.

Predicting mavacamten response in obstructive hypertrophic cardiomyopathy

This trial tests whether a person's genetic makeup can predict how well they respond to the drug mavacamten for obstructive hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (oHCM), a condition where the heart muscle is thickened and blocks blood flow.

Mavacamten for mid-to-apical obstruction in HCM

This trial tests if mavacamten can help people with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) who have obstruction in the middle or tip of the heart (not the usual outflow tract). You may join if you have symptoms like chest pain or shortness of breath and a pressure gradient above 30 mmHg in these areas.

Switching Heart Medicines: Mavacamten to Aficamten

This study tests switching from mavacamten to aficamten, two newer medicines that help improve heart function in people with a thickened heart muscle (HCM) that blocks blood flow. The goal is to see if aficamten works as well or better.

CT heart modeling for hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy

This trial uses a special CT scan to create a 3D model of your heart's blood flow. It aims to see if this model can help doctors better predict how well treatments work for people with a thick heart muscle that blocks blood flow.

Collecting samples to study why mavacamten works differently for people with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy

This study collects blood samples from people with obstructive hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (a type of heart muscle disease) to explore how genetics and other factors affect how well the drug mavacamten works. It may help doctors better understand who benefits most from this treatment.

Mavacamten Outcomes and Experiences in Heart Muscle Disease

This study looks at how mavacamten (a heart medication) works for people with obstructive hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM)—a condition where heart muscle becomes too thick. Researchers will review medical records and ask patients about their experiences with the treatment.
