Deep brain stimulation study for movement in Parkinson's

This study looks at whether adjusting deep brain stimulation (DBS) can improve how you see and move. DBS uses a device implanted in your brain to help control Parkinson's symptoms. This research aims to find better settings for that device to improve your coordination and daily function.

Who can take part

  • You have Parkinson's disease and have already had a DBS device placed in a part of your brain called the subthalamic nucleus (STN) on both sides.
  • Your doctors have older MRI scans of your brain taken before the DBS surgery, and you are able to get a new MRI or CT scan after surgery.
  • Your Parkinson's symptoms are mild to moderate when you are off your medication (Hoehn and Yahr stage 2–4).
  • You have been on a steady dose of Parkinson's medication and your DBS settings have not been changed recently.
  • You do not have dementia or untreated depression or anxiety that affects your daily life.
