Comparing two types of strength training for spinal cord injury recovery

Who can take part

  • You are 18 years or older.
  • You have a spinal cord injury from an accident or disease.
  • You are currently in your first rehabilitation program and starting strength training (about one month after injury).
  • You use a wheelchair for daily activities (cannot walk around the house).
  • You have enough arm strength (biceps and triceps) to do arm-crank exercises, as determined by a sports medicine doctor.
  • You can have an MRI (no metal implants like pacemakers or other magnetic parts in your body).
