Who can take part

  • Your baby has been diagnosed with open spina bifida (a gap in the spine) and no other major health issues.
  • You are healthy, at least 18 years old, and able to have surgery safely.
  • You are pregnant with one baby (not twins or more) and your pregnancy is before 26 weeks.
  • Your baby has a specific brain finding (Chiari II malformation) seen on ultrasound or MRI.
  • You do not have risk factors like a history of preterm birth, certain infections, or obesity (BMI over 40).
