Who can take part

  • You are between 30 and 65 years old.
  • You have a damaged cartilage spot (a defect) on the weight-bearing part of your thigh bone (femoral condyle) or on the groove where your kneecap slides (trochlea).
  • The damaged area is no larger than about the size of a nickel (3.1 cm²), and the surrounding cartilage is healthy.
  • You have tried at least 2 months of non-surgical treatments (like physical therapy, injections, or anti-inflammatory meds) or had a prior knee surgery more than 12 months ago, and it didn't work.
  • You do not have severe arthritis (bone-on-bone), a BMI of 35 or higher, or other major knee problems (like a torn meniscus or loose ligaments).
