Who can take part

  • You are between 18 and 60 years old.
  • You are scheduled for surgery to repair damaged knee cartilage.
  • The damaged area is 2 to 6 square centimeters on your thighbone, kneecap, or groove.
  • Your knee pain is moderate to severe (score below 70) without pain medication, and your other knee is nearly pain-free.
  • You do not have severe arthritis, major knee instability, or certain other health problems.
