Otago exercise with action observation for stroke recovery

This study combines the Otago Exercise Program (a balance and strength program) with action observation training (watching movements to help relearn them) to improve balance and walking in people who have had a stroke. It may help if you had a stroke 1 month to 2 years ago and can walk with or without help.

Who can take part

  • Men and women ages 40 to 65
  • Had an ischemic stroke (blocked artery) between 1 month and 2 years ago
  • Have a balance score between 35 and 40 on a test called the Berg Balance Scale
  • Score above 24 out of 30 on the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (thinking and memory test)
  • Can walk with or without a cane or walker
  • No other brain or nerve conditions, and no vision, balance, or joint problems that would limit movement
